Surrounding area

The area around Cetona offers plenty of opportunities for excursions: the surrounding countryside is exceptionally beautiful. There are local riding stables, spas, and sporting facilities, including tennis courts, skating, fresh water pools, golf courses, trekking and mountain bike tracks.
Fifty thousand years ago, prehistoric man chose Cetona and its mountain for their settlement, making it one of the first such settlements in Italy. The local museum exhibits finds from this period, and visitors can also visit the Monte Cetona archaeological park, with 25 prehistoric caves originally inhabited by Neanderthal man.

Cetona is ideally situated for excursions around Tuscany and into nearby Umbria and Lazio, including the cities of Florence, Siena, Perugia, Assisi and Rome. The hot spas of San Casciano dei Bagni, Chianciano, Pienza, the Val d’Orcia, Cortona and Chiusi are even closer and are highly recommended.
